i grew up in the punk scene in Asheville, as well as many other cities, and I know folks from across generations. as many know, there have been fallouts and misunderstandings in the “scene” that involve politics, snitching, stealing, money, and sexual assault.
a person I used to know is Asheville transitioned while I was on the west coast. they transitioned from sensitive punk guy kid to I am a girl now celebration of rapist punk culture, with all the bars to back them. i had a gig at a local vegan spot, smoking onion, last spring and this girl came in to eat and began seig heiling repeatedly in the cafe. I don’t think they knew I worked there.
while issues remain with one of the workers of the smoking onion, seig heiling is no way to call out rapist fascism, and doing to implicates this girl in shady behavior, especially when they are wearing a symbol of rape on their punk vest.
Nazi culture is not a joke and their symbols are not tools of the underground punk scene.
